Travelling with children
Travelling as a family is very economical in London. Often children travel free on all public transport in London, and when they do have to pay, it's much less than an adult fare. Here are some guidelines about child fares:
- Child rates are for children under 16 years (aged 5-15 years).
- Children under 5 years always travel free on all public transport.
- Up to 4 children aged 5-10 years can travel free if they're with a full-paying adult at OFF-PEAK times on the Underground and Docklands Light Railway and do not need a ticket. (Note: after 09:30 Monday to Friday and ALL day Saturday and Sunday and Public Holidays are off-peak times.)
- Children aged 5-13 years are free at ANY TIME on buses and trams and do not need a ticket. Children aged 14-15 pay £0.50 on buses and trams, but this is only available with an Oyster card.
For information on child rates, see fares and tickets.
Concessions
At the moment there are no concessions on London transport services for students or senior travellers who aren't UK residents.
Wheelchair users
Wheelchair users travel for free on all London transport. See the following pages for more information on using public transport in London for people with accessible needs:
